Ella looked up at him, shoulders tense though she kept her emotionless mask in a place. “A test? Dying is permanent, it’s not some battle wound, or amnesia. It’s no test at all, it is a result of a test maybe. How much must someone not care about their life and the people in them to think of their life, not even touching the subject of love, ending as a test they can maybe hope to somehow over come.” 

“No, but than again I was taught to always think. I was taught to never let emotions get the better of me in battle or die. I haven’t had the luxury of being able to act simply on my feelings and desires.” Ella said, holding her head high. She didn’t show her frustration, nor the internal pain from hearing he would die for her, she was not worth dying for. 

“I do not wish for you to die for me, I would hope you would choose to live for me, even if I were to die. Let me give you a ‘hypothetical’ situation. Imagine, my master, whom I care for very much, the only thing close to family, the only one who has been with me and has never betrayed, had a physical form. Or if I was there when she was about to die, would you prefer I stay there, and die with her or instead of her never to return here again? I know that would not be her wish for me, it is the same reason I am here instead of using one of the darkest spells of the Old Religion and giving my body to my master, and offer her another chance at a happy life.”She was being brutally honest, she cared for Fili, but Freya was her family.

Fili remained quiet for a moment. Old religion? Give her body? He wondered if he should question this. “Why do you stay then? Instead of doing… all that?”

Fili’s eyes were full of worry after hearing this. He always learned something new about Ella everyday, but this is something completely out of the ordinary.
