Ella looked up at him, shoulders tense though she kept her emotionless mask in a place. “A test? Dying is permanent, it’s not some battle wound, or amnesia. It’s no test at all, it is a result of a test maybe. How much must someone not care about their life and the people in them to think of their life, not even touching the subject of love, ending as a test they can maybe hope to somehow over come.”
“That is not entirely what I meant, Ella.” Fili began. “What I meant was, if you were truly in love with somebody, would you be willing to end your life to protect that someone? Imagine somebody who you love dearly, not imagine they are surrounded by blood thirsty beasts. You know if you step in, you would die a merciless and horrid death but there would be a better chance of that someone suriving. Or how about this? You are weaponless and your loved one is too hurt to move and you are too weak to carry them but still strong enough to run. Beasts are approaching and your love one urges you to leave them and save yourself. Do you run? Or do you stay and die with the one you love most because you want to be with them until the end?”
“We have been in that situation, have we not? I almost died from over using my powers, though I did not tell you at the time. Answering your questions, it would depend. Do I have others I love just as much if not more waiting elsewhere for me? Would the one I love want me to live? Am I dying a senseless death, when others are depending on me? Sometimes one must not judge solely on emotion, but logic and thought.” Ella said,pressing her lips together. She knew it was useless, she couldn’t talk him out of this notion.
“But wouldn’t you think, in a crucial situation, your emotions would take control over your thoughts and logic as well as thought would no longer be possible?” Fili looked down and said quietly, “I will say this now, I would die for you in a heartbeat.”
