“That’s what you feel? That’s all you think?” He frowned and shook his head. “I have trouble saying that word. But it doesn’t mean I don’t feel it….If you think I didn’t love you then…Clearly you weren’t paying attention..”

“Trouble saying that word? Love. Is it because it is so intimate? Is it because either one of us could die at any second? I just don’t understand. I love you, Bilbo. I really do, and I am not going to hold it in.” Fili stepped forward and looked into the halfling’s eyes. “It’s alright, Bilbo.”

“I don’t love easily based on past experiences. I haven’t exactly had the best love life and I’m not in the mood to get pushed around again. That is why I can’t say it. It means too much to let it just be thrown around carelessly and I don’t want…” He paused as Fili moved closer, looking up at him, “I don’t want it to be worth nothing in the end and I’m afraid it will end up just like that.”

Fili nodded, considering the hobbit’s words carefully. “You are right. I am sorry if I had pushed it on you.”
Fili gave Bilbo a small smile, “I am also sorry that I accused you of such a thing. I should never have doubted you.”
